'Courage' - Original Linocut Print inspired by the book 'Life of Pi' by Yann Martel.
To me the tiger is a symbol of Pi’s inner strength. I think Pi needed to create a visualisation of this part of himself to help him cope with the darkness of his reality.
It is a very human response to search for a power that is higher than ourselves when we are suffering. I think we all have different ways of expressing what this power can be. For example, it can be God or Allah, it can be Vishnu or Shiva, it can be Nanook or Odin, it can be Mother Nature or The Great Spirit… the list goes on! Or it can simply be called Faith, not based on any religion or spiritual concept, just the belief that your own courage and determination will get you through.
